Odds and Ends

I don't have anything much to report today. Yesterday we had a very nice Labor Day picnic with the girls and their men. Everyone brought something and of course, we had too much food. Leftovers are always wonderful! I was super busy at work today and I had by CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women) luncheon meeting today. The guest speaker was really good. His name was Brian Parsley, a motivational speaker of sorts. The topic was I love my job....again! This speech was geared towards reinventing your enthusiasm for your job, make it new and fresh. He also talked alot about branding yourself and your company. We all have to be careful in this world of making your life so public (blogs, facebook, twitter, etc.) and that we may be branding ourselves without giving what we post much thought. He made some really good points and also had many jokes to tell. Very interesting topics. Tonight DH is working so I'm going over to the jewelry table in a little bit. I made some gingerbread for the guys at work. They all told me none of their wives bake!! I love to bake! Everyone have a great evening!

HAPPY LABOR DAY EVERYONE!

Happy Labor Day everyone! I hope y'all are going to have a picnic, gathering or just plain relaxing today! I did a little research on Labor Day and here is what I found (in a nutshell). Labor Day was first started in Canada, but it began in America on September 5, 1882. Labor Day was dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. So everyone enjoy your day off from work, relax and enjoy the day!

Happy 70th Gone With the Wind

I have watched GWTW so many times but it is still one of my favorites and always will be! I went on-line and looked at all the GWTW black and white photos and then decided to pick the gown I'm going to wear for the Ball! Nikki from The Scarlett Rose Garden was gracious enough to be our Hostess-thank you Nikki!

I have chosen the BBQ Gown. How beautiful! There were so many beautiful gowns in that movie. It was hard not to chose the Blue Portrait Gown but it is too hot to wear that gown right now. Y'all know it is a little hot this time of year.

Here's Mammy now to help me into my BBQ gown. Even though she can be bossy at times, I just love her to death!

Oh and here is the handsome Rhett Butler! I know we had that little embarrasing moment in the library at the BBQ but I forgive him and isn't he just so handsome. I wouldn't tell him that though he just might get a swelled head or something! I just do adore Mr. Rhett Butler!

I saw this sketch on-line, I love this artwork!

What a wonderful movie, which I'm sure will entertain every one for many, many years to come! Happy Birthday Gone With the Wind!!

Grey Gardens, the movie

Last night John and I watched a very interesting movie called Grey Gardens. It was based on a true story. Here is a synopsis of the movie:

Based on the life stories of the eccentric aunt and first cousin of Jackie Onassis (both named Edith Bouvier Beale aka "Big and Little Edie") raised as Park Avenue débutantes but who withdrew from New York society, taking shelter at their Long Island summer home, "Grey Gardens." As their wealth and contact with the outside world dwindled, so did their grasp on reality. They were reintroduced to the world when international tabloids learned of a health department raid on their home, and Jackie swooped in to save her relatives.

Jessica Lange played the role of the mother (Big Edie) and Drew Barrymore (Little Edie) played the role of the daughter. Both women played there roles very well. Sela Ward played the role of Jackie Kennedy Onassis. She had a very minor role in the movie though. I was very surprised to see how these 2 women lived their lives. It is a very interesting movie.

John will be home tonight-we have an agenda-LOL!

John usually works every night except one during the week (which happens to be tonight). He will have Sundays off from now on too. We are going to grill some sausages on the grill tonight for dinner and have a nice salad with all local veggies. Then we'll head on over to the library. I have to return a book, John needs to find a new book and I need to find a new BOCD to download to my ipod. Then Grey Gardens, the movie came from Netflix so I guess we'll be watching that. It will be just nice having him home. We also have to decide what we are making for the Labor Day picnic we are having with the girls and their men.

Everyone have a wonderful day!

I made these earrings last night!

Last night I came home from work and guess what was there....the Thingamajig I ordered to make earring wires and cool earrings. This is my first attempt at using it. I put these earrings on my etsy.com site. If you want to see them, just go to the drop down box (it says handmade) and click on Seller, in the next box put cherylmcdermitt1. When the site comes up you click on cherylmcdermitt1 again and it will bring up my whole site.

I had alot of fun figuring out where to put the pegs on the grid to make this shape. Tonight I'm going to try more and maybe another ring. This ring will be in pink!

Everyone have a wonderful day!

What a great time Jenny and I last night!

Jenny arrived at my house even before I did. John was still home so they had a chance to chat for a bit. When I got home Jenny and I went to Harris Teeter to buy the birthday cake for the office. We also found out Breyers Ice Cream was on sale, if you bought 2 you got 3 free!! OH MY GOODNESS!!!! We were little piggys and did buy them! I sent some home with Jenny for her and Kevin to enjoy! I then made hamburgers from my Dad's home grown beef and grilled them on the grill. Boy were they yummy! Good thing I'm going back North the beginning of October I'm almost out of beef! When we got eating and clean up out of the way we headed to the jewelry table! I made Jenny a pair of earrings with some vintage owl beads she had. She loves owls as much as I do! Then she had made a cloud out of clay, baked that and she had me connect beads to it (which were a pretty blue) to make it look like the cloud was raining. She saw a necklace in an expensive magazine, which was very similar but it was really expensive. I actually like the one we made much better! We gave it out own touch!! Jenny took alot of pictures of my jewelry except my camera was cooperating and they came out blurry. She gave me some great ideas though. This morning I took some and of course, the were fine-nice and clear. I'll be putting some more things on etsy.com tonight. John has to work so I'll also be making some new creations. I hope my "Thingamajig" comes really soon so I can make even more cool earrings!

I hope everyone has a wonderful day! SMILE!
