Here are some pictures of what's going on in my flower garden this week

Yesterday I took some pictures and posted my veggies I've grown and today I'm going to show you just a few of my flowers in the courtyard and on my front porch. I have to say I love heliotrope! The fragrance from that plant is just amazing! I love the color too! Here goes:


I opened the front door this morning to water my urns on the front porch and saw how beautiful the flowers in the middle courtyard have become. The homeowners association changed landscapers and they have done a fine job!


This is one of the two urns I have out front this year. I just planted coral and white colored double impatients and the creeping jenny is from last year. I just trimmed it and I think it still looks wonderful. I did change the soil in the urns too.


This is one of my two heliotrope plants. I love the fragrance from this plant! I stumbled upon this plant when I lived in NJ and it has been the great addition to my garden!


Here is my red tomato in the background of the heliotrope. I love the red contrasting with the purple!


My ivy is doing great this year! I snapped this pic after I had just watered all the plants in the courtyard. I love when leaves have water on them.


This year I made up another urn for the courtyard. I put a New Guinea impatient plant in with some large Lamb's Ear and I love the contrast of the dusty gray against the dark foliage of the impatient. I think this combo is a winner!

Here are my two prize hostas-Avocado and Guacamole! They are really spectacular this year.






My coneflower just started blooming. There is only 1 little blossom out now but I have about 20 other buds on there. I love these plants because they attract the butterflies.


Last but not least is my antique wrought iron hanger on my fence. I have dianthus and petunias in there and the color of the petunias is just brillant and velvet-like this year.

It is tomato time at my house!

Hi Everyone! Thanks for all your well wishes on my post yesterday! I'm feeling so much better today after 2 rounds of antibiotics. I even had lunch with Megan today (she had the day off too!).

I came home from my Dr. appt. yesterday and saw 2 of my lovely tomatoes have turned red!! I was so excited! It is like they turned red overnight! I will be eating them for dinner tomorrow night with the corn we get from the Farmer's Market tomorrow. I also have a cucumber on my one and only cucumber plant I planted in a container in the courtyard. I guess courtyard veggie gardens really do work!!

These yummy looking red tomatoes will be paired with my homegrown basil and some fresh mozzarella cheese!

Under the weather today :(

I have a splitting headache, my tonsils are almost touching each other and my ears feel like they are underwater. The crackling in my ears are driving me crazy! I'm off to the Dr. today at 3 and then home to rest. I have a vacation day tomorrow thank goodness! I'm drinking plenty of fluids, having soup for lunch today and hopefully that will be enough to get rid of this! Everyone have a wonderful day!

Today was much better!

Hi Everyone! Today at work was much better, calmer and actually quiet. I was busy, busy, busy but most of the guys were not there and alot of the subcontractors were subcontracting and leaving me alone! I hope tomorrow is just as nice.

I just went over to Borders (Borders is right across the street from where I live) and I bought The Beekeeper's Apprentice for my mystery bookclub on 7/7. I don't know anything about it and I hope it is a good one. I was going to pick it up on my way home tomorrow night but then I saw a coupon for 25% off and it ended tonight. I hopped in the car and away I went!! It is very, very tempting for me to have a bookstore right across the street. I have been oh so good this year so far though!

Today was one of those days!!

Today I had a really trying day at work! I had 13 e-mails and 8 phone calls from the same person by 7:30 a.m.!! There was a problem at one of our projects and no one would pick up their phone but me and I got everything solved and calmed down by 8:15! Geesh, you would have thought the building was on fire, someone was hurt, something tragic had happened but no just someone not doing their job and someone else having to clean it up!

Jenny gave me this little blue creature as a joke for Mother's Day this year. Well guess what this is how I felt and I wondered at one point if I had held my breathe so long I had turned blue just like this little blue creature!!



After this lovely, lovely day I have decided I'm taking Friday off and I'm enjoying the day with my husband! Is it Friday yet! Time to look for a new job!!

2 Treasures over the weekend!

Over the weekend I went to an Antique Center in Waxhaw, NC not too far from my house. I was suppose to be looking for items for a Very Vintage Summer Swap that I'm doing. Well I did buy something for my Swap partner but I also bought this darling little green depression glass jar for me! I know, I know focus Sherri focus, but I couldn't resist!!



I also had to go to Michaels and get some cotton yarn and while I was there I had to peruse all the aisles I was interested in. Look at this cute little garden tray. Well I don't really think it qualifies for a tray but it is similar to a little catchall I used to have when we lived on our farm in NJ. This is so cute! I put it on the ledge between my kitchen and the living room. I put 2 ivy plants one at each end of the catchall and now I have to decide what to put in the 2 middle compartments-oohhhhh do I hear another shopping trip!!!!



I had a really great weekend!

Mother Nature's Wonders

I have always been fascinated by Mother Nature's way of spiraling flowers. When flowers open they usually unfurl in a spiral motion and open. I love watching time-lapsed photography of a flower opening it is so interesting! I used to watch The Wonderful World of Disney when I was small (yes I'm dating myself) and in the opening shots there was a flower that would open really quickly. My Nana always planted Moon Vine plants in a flower pot by her porch. I would wait for her call (she usually lived nearby so I could run to her house)that the moon vine was opening. You could actually see the plant start to shake and very, very slowly you could see it opening. I didn't care how many mosquito bites I got I would stand there with Nana for hours and watch her plant unfurl and show it's snowy white bloom to us! I have tried to grow Moon vines when we lived in the North and they never germinated or they were spindly. Next year I have decided I'm going to try again.

I have recently found out about this spiral aloe plant. There is a vendor on etsy.com that sells these plants from time to time and someday I'm going to order one!


I love the creamy, buttery color of this flower-just gorgeous!


This photographer did an amazing job with this picture. The colors are spectacular and what a wonderful spiral specimen.


This purple flower is just ready to open. I would have loved to see this one in time-lapsed photography.


Roses have always been special to me. I love rosebuds and have painted them over the years, I've created roses in stained glass and I grow them in my garden and take numerous pictures of them. This one is a beauty.


This little hibiscus is beautiful and I love the color.

I hope you've enjoyed looking at nature in a different way. My Nana had taught me so many things about gardening and looking at flowers the way they grow and not just for their beauty was one of them. Miss and love you Nana!
