Sunday Stroll-The Iris' and roses are beautiful this year!

I was suppose to go with John to the Quail Hollow Golf Classic today but I had a splitting headache and was running a fever. I slept for most of the day, but I needed to stretch my legs and get some outside sun and fresh air. I took a stroll around the house (that was about all the walking I did today). Our iris' are blooming now and the roses are just so beautiful this year I had to photograph them and show everyone.

Last night or I should say early this morning I finished reading Flamingo Diner and I enjoyed that immensely! I have started reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett and I'm really enjoying that so far. This book is very interesting. It is for my bookclub and the leader of the club told me the writer lived in NYC during the 911 attacks. She wasn't able to leave her apartment for a few weeks so she hunkered down and wrote this book!

Here is what Publisher's Weekly had to say on amazon.com about the book:
The story is set during the nascent civil rights movement in Jackson, Miss., where black women were trusted to raise white children but not to polish the household silver. Eugenia Skeeter Phelan is just home from college in 1962, and, anxious to become a writer, is advised to hone her chops by writing about what disturbs you. The budding social activist begins to collect the stories of the black women on whom the country club sets relies and mistrusts enlisting the help of Aibileen, a maid who's raised 17 children, and Aibileen's best friend Minny, who's found herself unemployed more than a few times after mouthing off to her white employers. The book Skeeter puts together based on their stories is scathing and shocking, bringing pride and hope to the black community, while giving Skeeter the courage to break down her personal boundaries and pursue her dreams. Assured and layered, full of heart and history, this one has bestseller written all over it.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Now I'm headed back to the couch to rest and rejuvenate for work tomorrow! Everyone have a lovely evening!

This is the pale pink rosebush when you come in our driveway. The fragrance is absolutely wonderful this year. I think all the water we had really helped the roses and plants this year after the severe drought we had last year and the year before.

A closeup of the pale pink rose.

This purple iris looks almost black before it opens. It is a rich, royal purple color. When the light hits its petals there is a shimmer effect, very beautiful!

This is the center of the purple iris. The wind flutter the one petal but I thought it gave it a new perspective. Very elegant and beautiful iris for sure!

This peach colored iris came out today, what a beauty!!

This is the center of the peach colored iris. I just thought the different colors and textures were beautiful!

This velvet red rose is just blooming up a storm this year!

These 2 red roses are up against the brick on our house. They just looked perfect there!

This William Lobb Moss Rose just started to bloom and it is beautiful! The buds are so fuzzy this year, hence the moss rose name! The thorns are plentiful though on this bush, but you have to overlook that and see the beauty in the rose and buds.
